OCEAN RACE
Guard For Yachts (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Dec. 25. Fifteen boats will be used to keep hundreds of spectator craft away from entrants in the Sydney-to-Hobart yacht race, which starts on Saturday. , Organisers say that there is a severe risk of collisions if spectator craft do not keep clear, particularly at the start and near south reef, where the yachts turn for their run through the heads. The patrols will be provided by the volunteer coastal patrol water police, and the Maritime Services Board. A fleet of 38 will contest the 640-mile race, which will start shortly before noon. Six Victorian yachts, two Tasmanian and two from South Australia are entered. The rest are from New South Wales.
Fifteen yachts will be competing for the first time, and 14 of these are new craft.
