One-Legged Golfer Wins Award
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CHICAGO, December 5. A Manchester-born golf professional, Ernest Jones, aged 77, who lost his right leg in the First World War, was yesterday named winner of the 1964 Ben Hogan Trophy, awarded to a golfer who overcomes a physical handicap and continues active participation in the game. Jones, who emigrated to the United States from Britain in 1924 and lives in New York, became a leading golf instructor in spite of his handicap. The winner of the trophy, instituted in 1953, is selected by the Golf Writers’ Association of America.
