REID NOT PLAYING
Blair To Be Captain (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. R. W. Blair and not J. R. Reid, who is unavailable, will captain the Wellington team against Pakistan at the Basin Reserve, starting on January 6. Announcing this today, the convener of the Wellington selectors (Mr F. L. H. Mooney), said Reid would, however, play in all Plunket Shield matches. A replacement for Reid in the Pakistan match might be chosen after the Central Districts game, which begins on Boxing Day. “We would like to have a look at Blair and B. D. Morrison to see how they stand up before we decide on a replacement," he said. Mr Mooney announced that the Kilbirnie batsman, D. O. Neely, had been chosen as twelfth man for the match against Central Districts. The last time Blair captained Wellington in a firstclass match was against Otago two seasons ago when Reid missed the final day because of injury. Blair, called upon to skipper the side, took six wickets for 31 off 18 overs, and in one shattering burst removed five batsmen with four balls.
