CANADA’S DEFENCE
5-Year Boost Plan (N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) OTTAWA, Dec. 23. Canada’s Defence Minister, Mr Paul Hellyer, yesterday announced a five-year weapons programme for the armed forces amounting to about 1500 million dollars. He said the 1965-70 programme was designed to reequip and improve the mobility of the Army, to provide an adequate air and sea lift for immediate deployment in an emergency, to acquire tactical jet aircraft and maintain improvement in anti-submar-ine capability. The programme includes the acquisition of the Swedish Carl Gustav anti-tank weapon to replace the kind the Army has been using for the last seven years.
