CHRISTMAS SURPRISE
New Boat For Piha Club
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 22. Although members of the North Piha Surf Club do not believe in Father Christmas, their scepticism was shaken yesterday when the Mayor of Auckland (Mr D. M. Robinson) acted as stand-in.
After reading that the club needed a surf boat. Mr Robinson promptly guaranteed the £2OO the club required for a second-hand craft. Mr Robinson said he was well aware of the wonderful work of the club and the lives it had saved. He decided to make himself responsible for raising the money, pledged £lO, and approached 19 friends, all of whom gladly offered a similar sum.
