T.E.A.L. AIR ROUTES
Planning For Mangere
“The Press’* Special Service
WELLINGTON, Dec. 22
Within six months of the opening of Auckland’s new airport, T.E.A.L. jet airliners will be serving Australia, North America, Malaysia and Hong Kong. Preliminary planning for the four routes has gone a long way and flight schedules for the Tasman service are now being prepared. With the airport opening date tentatively fixed for November 24 next year, the T.E.A.L. DCB services will come into being in the following order:—
On November 25 services will start between Auckland, Sydney and Christchurch (Electras will serve Wellington, Melbourne and Brisbane). About December 8 the first flight to North America will be made. The planned route is through Nandi in Fiji and Honolulu to Los Angeles. The frequency of the service has not yet been announced. During February, 1966, the service to Singapore will start via Sydney. In April or May, 1966, a direct service to Hong Kong will begin. This will also be through Sydney, with possibly a stop at Darwin. Rights to fly into Singapore were granted last August. Singapore is considered an ideal terminal, as most of the world airlines travelling north, east and west pass through it.
