First Call

(N.Z. Press Association* DUNEDIN, December 22,

A meal of flowers—arum lilies—brought the national poisons information centre at Dunedin Hospital into action immediately after its official opening yesterday. The information centre was able to “diminish uncertainty and anxiety,” one of the functions stated at the opening. The call for help came from Mr D. Scott, casualty officer at the Christchurch Hospital, after a young child had eaten arum lilies.

“This was a question of whether the lilies were poisonous or not,” said the casualty officer at Dunedin Hospital, Dr. N. North. “We were able to tell him there was no toxicity.”
