ISSUE NOT WITHDRAWN
Objection To Stamp
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BONN, Dec. 22.
The West German Postal Ministry has refused to withdraw a stamp which, some users say, reveals a portrait of Hitler.
The new 50-pfenning stamp shows a castle portal with a tree, but critics say Hitler’s head can be discerned in the tree’s foliage. The Postal Ministry said the configuration was accidental and was not noticeable unless attention was drawn to it. What appeared to be a head could be that of a chimney sweep, or of Charlie Chaplin.
