Medical And Dental Services In Holidays
Holiday arrangements for medical services in Christchurch are outlined by the president of the Canterbury division of the British Medical Association (Dr. D. T. Stewart) in a statement to “The Press.”
“In the case of emergency, first call on or telephone your own doctor. The place he is most likely to be at any particular time will be indicated in the special listing for registered medical practitioners in the front of the telephone directory. “Many doctors work with colleagues to provide an emergency service, and the names and numbers of the alternative doctors are usually listed beside your doctor’s directory listing. “If your doctor or his alternative cannot be found, ring the St John Ambulance Association (78-879) for information.
“Non-urgent calls will be best made to the doctor’s residence before 8.30 a.m. Most doctors start their round of visits before 9 a.m., and an early call enables them to plan their round to the best advantage. After 9 a.m. calls should first be made to the doctor's consulting-rooms
where a nurse or receptionist can take a message.
“Visitors to Christchurch in need of medical advice should ring the St. John Ambulance Association unless friends or their hotel can advise them about a doctor.”
The president of the Canterbury division of the New Zealand Dental Aesociation (Mr J. W. Ashby) said persons in need of dental treatment during the holidays should first ring their own dentist at his rooms. If no answer is received, a telephone call should be made to the St. John Ambulance Association which has a list of the dentists working each day.
