Coach Service To Wanaka
Yesterday the Mount Cook and Southern Lakes Tourist Company resumed its coach service to Wanaka. The service was interrupted because a fire destroyed the Lake Wanaka Hotel on June 13, 1958. Now the Tourist Hotel Corporation has opened a new Lake Wanaka Hotel and the Mount Cook Company is starting a new three-day a week service to Wanaka, on its Christchurch - ■ Queenstown route.
The company used to service Wanaka in the days when lit was still called Pembroke and was part of the world renowned Grand Motor Tour of the South Island which also included a drive over the Crown Range which was and possibly still is New Zealand's highest motor road. The new service leaves Christchurch at 8.15 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It arrives back in Christchurch at 5.30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
