OPERA TOUR IN 1965

4 Don Giovanni,’ ‘Il Trovatore’

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Dec. 20.

Plans for the New Zealand Opera Company’s second tour for 1965 were well under way, the chairman of directors, Mr F. Turnovsky, said yesterday. Early in July, three weeks after “Porgy and Bess” concluded, the regular company would open in Wellington with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Verdi’s “Il Trovatore”—and tour Palmerston North, Hastings, Napier, Hamilton, Auckland, Christchurch, Invercargill, and Dunedin, concluding on September 11. “Don Giovanni” would be produced by John Thompson, the company’s resident producer, and “11 Trovatore” would be designed and produced by Raymond Boyce.

“We have invited back to New Zealand singers who had their start with us and have made a name for themselves overseas. They include Jon Andrew, Mary O’Brien and Peter Baillie.”
