PROXY FOR BISHOP

(Neto Zealand Press Association)

OPOTIKI, Dec. 21

Mr D. N. Perry, of Opotiki, moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, will represent New Zealand at annual working committee meetings of the World Council of Churches in Enuga, Nigeria, next month.

Mr Perry is a member of the laity committee of the World Council. He will also substitute for the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) for meetings of the central committee.

Bishop Warren said last

evening that for family reasons he was not able to leave New Zealand at this time, but he discovered the provision for a proxy from another church to be appointed.

When he found Mr Perry would be in Nigeria for committee meetings, Bishop Warren said he was happy to obtain the approval of the Anglican Church in New Zealand for the substitution on the central committee of the World Council of Churches as he was the only New Zealand representative.
