Food For Thought HOLIDAY TIN-FILLERS

IBu

ALAN TREMAIN]

Today I give two more recipes to help fill the tins for the holidays— Chocolate Square and Crunchy Munchies. Both keep well, if allowed to and are very popular, I find.

CHOCOLATE SQUARE You will need: 12oz chocolate 4oz coconut 4oz sugar 4oz glace cherries 1 egg beaten.

Method: Just melt the chocolate, pour into a lightly buttered shallow dish. It is best to melt the chocolate over a pan of boiling water. Next mix the beaten egg with the coconut sugar and glace cherries chopped coarsely. Spread over the chocolate, roughen with a fork and bake for 15 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit, cut into squares when cold.

CRUNCHY MUNCHIES You will need: 4oz butter 1 cup brown sugar 2 cups rolled oats 1 cup coconut.

Method: Melt the butter, add sugar and stir. Cook slowly for two minutes, add

rolled oats and coconut, mix well, press into a shallow tin which has been greased, bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees F. Mark out while hot, leave to set in pan and cut when I cold.
