Lyttelton News In Brief

The Christchurch-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority advised the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening that it had decided to obtain a report from the Ministry of Works on the whole question of redesigning the Lyttelton portal area. The authority said opinions had been expressed that the present layout with the roundabout system might not be the best method of dealing with traffic.

The Mayor (Mr J. B. Collett), who is also a member of the authority, said a bypass for through east-west traffic would mean only tunnel traffic would have to pass through the roundabout

Building Permits.—Building permits to the value of £26,986 have been approved by the council since the beginning of last month. The permits inelude one for £16,000 for the Bank of New Zealand’s new building in London street

Cass Bay Roads.—Ryan Brothers are to construct roads, sewer mains and water reticulation in Cass Bay. Water Tanks.— The council’s by-laws are to be amended to provide that all new houses at Diamond Harbour be fitted with water tanks of a capacity not less than 400 gallons.
