TALKS WITH JAPAN

‘Blood Debt’ To Malaysia

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 21. The Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia (Mr Fumihiko Kai) told reporters today further talks would be held soon on the Malaysian 160 million Malayan dollars “blood debt” claim.

Chinese business organisations in Kuala Lumpur have spearheaded the demand for this “gesture of atonement” from Japan for the conduct of the Imperial Forces in Malaysia between 1941 and 1945. The claim has the support of the Singapore State Government and the Malaysian Federal Government is pledged to give it some degree of backing.
