AUSTRALIAN JAMBOREE
300 N.Z. Scouts To Attend Three hundred New Zealand scouts will attend the seventh Australian boy scouts jamboree to be held near Dandenong, Victoria, from December 31 to January 8. They will travel by chartered planes each way. Scouts from all Australian states, New Guinea, and overseas will attend. In all there will be 16,000 including 50 from Malaysia, eight from the New Hebrides, 10 from Ceylon, five from Brunei, and 14 from the United States. The canvas city of the jamboree will go up almost overnight. Large marquees will house administration offices, quartermaster’s stores and shops and services. A 120-bed hospital will comprise four large marquees staffed by doctors and nurses and guiders. There will be a fire brigade, bus terminal, radio station, post office and chapels. The jamboree will cover an area of more than 700 acres. It has been surveyed to provide an adequate camping area for 288 troops of 50 boys. The jamboree will be opened by the Governor-General and Chief Scout of Australia (Lord De Lisle) and the closing ceremony will be led by Sir Charles Maclean, Chief Scout of the British Commonwealth
