End Of First Round
South Malvern, which was dismissed for only 16 last week, made a far better showing in its second innings against Greendale, scoring 202. J. Adams, a leg spinner, who took five for 75 in South Malvern’s second innings, finished with a match analysis of 11 for 81. Points after the end of the first round of the Malvern association’s senior competition are:—Sheffield 42, Greendale 33, Hororata 32, Darfield 24, Kirwee and South Malvern 6.
Scores were: Sheffield 368 beat Hororata 116 (N. Rothwell 31, D. McLeod 21; A. Wright four for 31, B. Jenkins three for 41) and 136 (J. Mclntyre 39, D. McLeod 28: K. Howarth three for 30, D. Clark two for 17) by an innings and 116 runs. Greendale 170 and 55 for three (S. Ridgen 29 not out) beat South Malvern 16 and 202 (R. Stuart 61, A. Stuart 43; J. Adams five for 75, A. Keenan two for 26, C. Adams two for 48) by seven wickets. Darfield 141 for eight declared and 138 for four (R. Farrant 43, G. Bruhns 40, J. Gunn 30 not out) beat Kirwee 78 and 194 (G. Wright 58, K. Dailey 35: D. R. Pettet two for 18. B. Johnston two for 63, R. Gunn two for 64) by six wickets.
