Obituary

MR A. H. LEE Mr Arthur Henry Lee, a prominent Christchurch businessman, died suddenly on Saturday. He was 51. Educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School, Mr Lee joined Lane, Walker, Rudkin, Ltd., as an office junior, and within 17 years became chairman and managing-director. At the time of his death, he had been head of the firm for 17 years. Mr Lee was also a director of Hay’s, Ltd., A.B. Consolidated, Norvic Shoes, and a

number of subsidiary companies of Lane, Walker, Rudkin, Ltd. A Rotarian, Mr Lee was a member of the original fundraising committee for homes for the aged. He always took an active interest in Windsor House.

A co-opted member of the Canterbury University Council, Mr Lee was chairman of the gymnasium committee and a member of the finance and property committee. During 1956 and 1957, Mr Lee was president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association and was also chairman of a number of the council's committees. He was for a period president of the New Zealand Textile and Garment Manufacturers’ Federation. Mr Lee was a keen sportsman with a particular interest in tennis, golf, and swimming.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
