ART STUDY ABROAD
Queen To Give Scholarships (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright* LONDON, December 7. The Queen is to finance a scheme to send young British artists abroad to further their studies, the "Daily Mail” reported. The money—4l scholarships of £lOO each—will come from the 2s 6d a head admission charge to the Queen’s art gallery at Buckingham Palace. The newspaper estimated that since the gallery was opened in July, 1962, 750,000 people had paid more than £90,000 to see the three exhibitions mounted there. The scheme announced by Buckingham Palace tonight, was the Queen’s own idea, the “Daily Mail” said. Each of Britain’s 41 art schools which run courses for the diploma in art and design will be asked to nominate an artist who would then be sent abroad to study.
