LIABILITY CLAUSE
Motorists’ Move
An absolute liability clause for intoxicated drivers had been withdrawn from the Transport Amendment Bill, 1964, as a result of a motor union deputation, the South Island Motor Union was told yesterday. The clause put absolute liability on drivers who were intoxicated and were involved in motor accidents causing injury or death, even where the intoxication bore no relation to the accident. A motor union deputation met the Statutes Revision Committee to object to the clause.
