MANICURED ELEPHANT
Death After Nail Trim
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) COPENHAGEN, Nov. 26.
A female Indian elephant’s lack of vanity was the indirect cause of her death today, zoo officials said in Copenhagen. The elephant, named K, had always refused to have her nails manicured and threatened her keepers if they tried to touch her feet so regularly she had her nails trimmed under anaesthetic.
After this treatment yesterday K had a relapse and died this morning, aged 41. The cause of death was provisionally believed to be paralysis of the heart.
