Racing Permits
Sir,—Mr Grigg has been reported as saying that an extra race-day permit will be used during the February meeting of the Christchurch Jockey Club. Might I suggest the committee invite a country club to use their own permit and combine with the C.J.C. to make this meeting a threeday one? The result is obvious. Most owners would come to Riccarton for a threeday meeting but are diffident about doing so when they are compelled to stay a whole week for only two days’ racing. Three days in February would also help to induce owners to stop over here after the Wellington meeting. I feel sure that some country club, if approached, would also see the advantage of combining with the C.J.C. The present C.J.C. committee is doing an excellent job. Let’s hope they see the soundness of my suggestion and implement it.—Yours, Ptc.« QUID EACH WAY. November 24, 1964. [The secretary of the Canterbury Jockey Club (Mr F. T. H. Bell) said: “A definite decision has not been made as to when the additional permit will be used. The matter will be considered at a meeting of the committee next week.”]
