No Defeats At Box Office
The Wellington Boxing Association “has not had a defeat of any kind at the box office in two years, either on amateur or professional tournaments,” said the chairman of the association (Mr Brian O’Brien) in a letter o the sports editor of “The Press."
Mr O'Brien was replying to a statement in “The Press” last month by the president of the Canterbury Boxing Association (Mr E. G. Pocock) that “Otematata, Greymouth and Wellington had all brought amateurs from Australia but they all lost much money on the fixtures.”
“This is wrong,” Mr O’Brien wrote. “We have brought three squads of Australian amateurs here (and also put on the Japanese), besides various professional fights, and we have made money each time, even on the last Australian team when the Empire Games champion, Tony Madigan, pulled out on us at the last moment, in June.”
