Plastic Surgery A Crime Antidote
Press Association—Copyright) SOMERS (Connecticut), November 18. State prison officials in Connecticut are trying to cut down on crime by using knives the sharp blades of surgeons’ scalpels.
Frederick G. Reincke, the warden at the Connecticut State prison, said that a surgeon is experimenting with the use of plastic surgery in the hope that the elimination of physical disfiguration in
prisoners would result in tie elimination of anti-social attitudes. Mr Reincke said that some men get involved in a life of crime directly or indirectly because of various physical disfigurations. He said the operations were being performed by a specialist who had helped to begin a similar programme at the Utah State prison in 1961. Not Identified The doctor was not identified. Mr Reincke said several States were experimenting with plastic surgery theory. He said results in various institutions revealed that prisoners with corrected physical defects were 50 per cent less likely to injure others or return to a life of crime than other inmates.
