STABLEMATE LEFT BEHIND IN TRIAL

“The Press" Special Service

DUNEDIN, November 19. Highland Fair and Nelson River were two of the most impressive trialists at Wingatui yesterday when the final gallops for the Southland Racing Club’s meeting were held under ideal conditions. The trestles were 30 feet out on the course proper and the track was in excellent order. Ridden by his race rider, E. J. Didham, Highland Fair worked clear of his stablemate. Dusky Belle (A. Gye) to complete half a mile in 51 4-ssec. Consistently placed in his recent races, Highland Fair is a form runner in the Takitimu Hack Handicap, the second leg of the Southland on-course double. Dusky Belle has been suffering from eye ailment and is not a certain starter in the Roslyn Maiden No. 1. Claytons Pride (R. J. Skelton) and Great Howe (E. J. Didham) covered the same ground in 52sec. Clayton’s Pride is a form runner in the Roslyn Handicap No. 2 and his stablemate will be one of the fancied runners in the Stewart Island Handicap after his two placed

performances at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Nelson River (R. O. Cairns) ran out six furlongs in the smart time of Imin 17 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. He worked clear of Pasowa (A. K. Robinson) and Solidity (P. Silver). Nelson River has been second in three of his last four races and will not lack support in the Stewart Island Handicap. Andalusia (R. N. Marsh) completed a round of solid pace work by coming home the last five furlongs in Imin 5 4-ssec. Balken Boy (J. R. Dowling) and Southern Belle (R. J. Skelton) were together in Imin 6 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 52 4-ssec. Satinette (A. J. Tweedie) sprinted from the three furlongs in 39sec. She will go to Invercargill for the second day of the meeting. Kathleigh (R. Wilder) and Killinchy (R. J. Skelton) came home in 38 3-ssec. Mighty Son (R. O. Cairns), which is coming along nicely in his preparation as a jumper gave a good display over four flights of hurdles. Samarkand (R. O. Cairns) jumped well at a fast pace over the same fences.
