Key Retired From Racing

(N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, Nov. 19. The outstanding race mare, Key, has been retired. She won 15 races and was 18 times placed in 43 starts in New Zealand, where she earned £16,275. Last season she went to Australia where she won the Villiers Stakes and was placed. Key’s best season was as a four-year-old when she won seven times and ran five placings in 15 attempts. Her wins were the Hawke’s Bay Cup, North Island Challenge Stakes, Duke of Edinburgh Stakes, Jackson Stakes, Manawatu Challenge Stakes, Thames Valley Stakes and Churchill Stakes. At three she won the Wellington Eulogy and Desert Gold Stakes. By Balloch from First Loch, she was bred by Mr T. C. Lowry, for whom T. B. McNeil, Hastings, trained her throughout her New Zealand racing career. In Australia she was prepared by M. McCarten.
