Oxford Milk Supply
Sir, —The county clerk’s reply to my letter has many statements which, in my opinion, are not correct. I question the one about the vendor deciding to discontinue selling from his own supply and acquire bottled milk from the Kaiapoi factory, and I do not accept the statement about a local meeting (“unspecified and certainly not a public one”) being a representative cross-section of citizens. Nor is there any definite evidence that the change is welcomed by the majority, who probably feel helpless about it, anyway. Has anyone any clear evidence of illness in this district directly the result of the consumption of unpasteurised milk? Would a qualified person advise us the age of the bottled milk when delivered?—Yours etc., F. H. ENGELBRECHT. Oxford, November 11, 1964. [The clerk to the Oxford County Council (Mr J. A. Gardner) said: “The facts were clearly and fully expressed in my comments to Mr Engelbrecht's previous letter and no good object will be achieved by entering into further correspondence on the subject.”]
