FISH SUPPLIES DEPLETED
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, November 18. At this time of the year if the weather is good Timaru fishermen land 1500 cases of fish.
Supplies of fish for local and export markets have been seriously affected by the Treneglos salvage operations although during the period there were two days when the weather was not suitable for fishing.
The manager of the Timaru Fishing Company, Ltd. (Mr R. S. Morris), estimates his firm has lost one week’s production.
Nevertheless, he expects the position will soon right itself.
Only the smaller trawlers have been fishing, the larger boats having been employed unloading or retrieving cargo from the Treneglos. Mr Morris said it was in November that elephant fish came in close to the shore to spawn.
