Thud, Grind Bump
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Nov. 18. The grounding of the Treneglos on Patiti reef approximately half a mile from the foreshore was described by residents in the Queen street area as a “deep thud.”
Members of the crew referred to it as a sensation of bumping, grating and vibrating followed by further grinding and bumping before the vessel stopped. The ship passed over two arms of the reef which extend from opposite the Timaru Milling Company’s silos to the mouth of Saltwater creek then stopped hard up against the third.
