Queen’s Cord In 2nd Leg

Queen’s Cord, runner-up to Flaming Way in the Dominion Handicap, gained a runaway win in the New Zealand Trotting Free-for-all, the second leg of the double, at Addington Raceway last evening. Raced by Mrs H. J. Hewson, of Kaikoura. where rhe is trained by J. H. Docherty, she was driven by D. J. Townley, who had driven Cloudy Bay and Lakeda to win earlier in the night. The LordshipQueen’s Cord double paid £3B 6s 6d for £l. Queen’s Cord began safely and she was seventh when the field settled down. Our Own forced all the pace, but she was in trouble when Queen’s Cord sprinted up and took the lead at the three furlongs. Queen’s Cord opened up a lead of three lengths over Flying Maiden racing to the straight with Flaming Way, White World, Mighty Hanover, Our Own, and Harbour Light handiest of the others. Queen’s Cord did not look like being caught and she won by two lengths and a half from Harbour Light which came home well to beat Flaming Way by half a length. Flying Maiden tired to fourth a length and a half back and a neck in front of Mighty Hanover, which was clear of White World, Uteena. Scotleigh, Astralight and Our Own. Control, Scotleigh, Spinster Scott Front Line and Medieval broke in the first furlong with Uteena breaking after a furlong and a half. Astralight was checked when Control stopped near the three furlongs.
