Children Saved From Fire
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 18. Two young children were snatched from a smoke-filled bedroom at the Onetangi post-office-store late yesterday afternoon. The fire, which began in an adjoining bedroom, gutted the living quarters behind the store. The owner of the store, Mr G. Chester, who was away at the time, said this morning his wife had smelt smoke and had gone to investigate. “She found the children’s room full of smoke and dashed in to get them out. She could hear them whimpering, but could not see them for the smoke.” The Waiheke Volunteer Fire Brigade arrived quickly and had the fire under control within half an hour.
