U.S. SHIP ARRIVES
The weather picket vessel, U.S.S. Mills, which arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning from Dunedin to bunker and load stores, will sail for her weather station today, calling at Campbell Island to unload stores and mail. She has 14 officers and 161 enlisted men who speak highly of the hospitality they received during their enforced stay at Dunedin.
Lieutenant-Commander C. Morris, U.S.N., is now in command of the Mills. Formerly stationed at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, he flew to Dunedin recently to relieve LieutenantCommander R. Hoffman, who will attend a course at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. While in Dunedin, the ship’s No. 1 boiler was replaced and tubes were renewed in No. 2 boiler. Repairs were also made to an evanorator. The Mills will relieve H.M.N.Z.S. Pukaki but is due back in Dunedin on December 21.
