Hyena And Russian Bear Overturned

MELBOURNE, Nov. 18. There were some an- 1 xious moments for residents of the Melbourne , suburb of Essendon today when a circus trailer carrying a hyena and a dangerous 5001 b Russian bear overturned.
About 10 policemen and several circus attendants stood by as the trailer was righted. It was not known until stood upright whether its cages had broken open in the crash. They were intact even though heavy outer wooden panels on the trailer had been smashed.
The trailer, owned by Ashton’s Circus, was being taken from one Melbourne suburb to another. It jack-knifed and overturned when the driver braked approaching traffic lights.
The animals were unhurt in the accident. The bear, Moshcka is the only Russian brown bear in Australia and is reported to be worth £3OOO.
Earlier, in a separate incident, another trailer owned by the same company, jackknifed only li miles away. It was carrying leopards and some dogs. It did not overturn.
