Young Man Saved By Two Women

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 8. A young motorist overcome by fumes at Paekakariki in the early hours of the morning was revived by two young women, one of them his girl friend, who applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for more than 30 minutes till an ambulance arrived.

The motorist is 19-year-old Wayne Andrew Bouzaid, a grocery assistant, of Melrose crescent, Newtown, whose condition was reported by Wellington Hospital to be satisfactory.

His rescuers were Miss M. France, aged 18, a clerk, of Rangiora street, Lower Hutt, his girl friend, and Miss M. Dalmer, aged 21, a typist, of Glenmore street, Wellington. The group was driving to Raumati in two cars, with Mr Bouzaid leading. The two young women and others in the following car

saw the leading vehicle wander on the road, then pull over to the verge just south of Paekakariki. They raced over and found the car full of smoke. Mr Bouzaid was already unconscious when they pulled him clear. One of the party telephoned for assistance, while the two young women began artificial resuscitation. At this stage Mr Bouzaid’s condition appeared to be deteriorating, with convulsions beginning. The two carried on for more than half an hour till an ambulance arrived from Porirua and an ambulance took over with a mechanical resuscitator. The oxygen brought ah improvement in the young man's condition and soon after he was able to be taken to hospital.
