Only one batsman, I. Plummer, passed 50 in the Bank's Peninsula sub - association’s senior cricket competition on Saturday. He scored 85. An example of the bowlers’ dominance was in the match between Akaroa and Little River. Akaroa made only 58 but this was enough to beat Little River by 18 runs on the first innings, J. Carrodous returning the best bowling figures of the day, seven for 15. Scores:—
Le Bons 168/3 (D. Masefield 30, P. de Latour 40, C. McKay 28, p. Johnston 41 not out, L. Inwood 21 not out; G. Moore 2/24) beat United 158 (Paul Haglund 18, I. Plummer 85. D. Marshall 24 not out; C. Grigg 4/37, Johnston 4/58) on the first innings. Kaltuna 187 (N. Allan 45. W. Newton 47. E. Allan 2S, R. Newton 21 not out; R. Weir 2/41, G. Foley 3/23) beat Wainui 127 (J. Palmer 25, B. Porteous 23: N. Allan 5/27, T. Turner 2/15, E. Allan 2/4) on the first innings. Akaroa 58 (J. Carrodous 24: P. Walker 4/16. R. Davidson 4/4) beat Little River 40 (Carrodous 7/15) on the first innings. Points after the first round of five matches, are:—Le Bons 26. United 25. Akaroa 24. Kaituna 18, Little River 15, Wainui 12.
