BATTING DISMAL

Collegians’ Collapse

Apart from J. E. England and A. R. Mac Gibbon, Old Collegians batsmen gave a dismal display against Sydenham. Old Collegians lost their last four first innings wickets for only 12 runs and, following on. were all out for 109, giving Sydenham a handsome victory by an innings and 126 runs.

The Sydenham bowling was accurate and was backed up by smart fielding but on a good pitch those were not sufficient reasons for the batting collapse. Too many of the Old Collegians batsmen were out to careless strokes.

Mac Gibbon and England showed that the Sydenham bowling did not possess the terrors that the batting totals indicated but they had no support from the rest of the team. Umpires: Messrs F. Goodall and R. V. Taylor.
