COW BAILS GUTTED
New Brighton Fire Some cow bails were destroyed and a fence and a glass windbreak were severely damaged by fire on the property of Mr Herbert Stevenson at 5 New Brighton road on Saturday. Two units from the Central station answered a call at 4.24 p.m. Units from the Sockburc Sydenham and Central stations attended a fire in the No. 1 railway workshop at Addington at 12.33 a.m. A guard’s van and part of the workshop were slightly damaged. | Slight damage was caused by fire to a hedge on the property of Mr Richard Pollock, 3 Holland street, about 8.34 a.m. The fire was put out before a unit from the Central station arrived. A grass fire on the properly of the Christchurch City Council waterworks department in Waimea terrace was extinguished by two units from the Sydenham station at 12.57 p.m. A fire in the wall of the bach of Mr Idris Jones at 131 McDougall square caused slight damage. It was put out by a unit from the St Albans station after a call received at 3.52 p.m. The tool shed of Mr George Smith at 49 Hawkehurst crescent was destroyed by fire. Two units from the Lyttelton station attended at 1.14 am. on Sunday. Two units from the New Brighton station extinguished a fire in a tree stump in the Rawhiti golf course at 1.47 a.m. An oven fire at the home of Mavis Clarkson, 6 Aidgate street, was attended by a unit from the St. Albans station at 7.29 a.m. A unit from the St. Albans station went to an oven fire at the home of Elizabeth Murray, at 27 Primrose street, at 10.51 a.m. A shed on the property of W. Rowlands, 214 Lyttelton street, was severely damaged by fire. Two units from the Sydenham station answered a call at 2.34 p.m.
