Robinson 6-Day Cycle Winner
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 8. After 650 miles of gruelling cycling, the Auckland rider, N. Robinson, won the Dulux six-day race from Auckland to Wellington on Saturday.
Robinson had a good lead] when the riders left Palmerston North on the last stage, and was content to relax over the final part after he had also made sure of the King of the Mountains section. He became the first rider ever to win both the main sections of the race. B. Harcourt (Auckland) also recorded a fine performance by finishing second, only 95 seconds behind. He was only five points behind Robinson in the hill climbing section. The strong Australian attack, which wilted in the face of Robinson’s and Harcourt's pressure on Thursday, failed to reduce the gap. M. Powell, the early tour leader, finished third. The event was a personal triumph for Robinson, who improved every day and seemed the freshest man after a most arduous tour. Robinson just missed Olympic selection but since the trials has virtually dominated the New Zealand scene with many fine wins in a wide variety of races. Results: — General Classification. N.
