12,000 Miles To Save House

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 6. Mr Victor Ivanhoe has arrived in Auckland from London prepared to fight the Onehunga Borough Council on its demolition order for his 100-year-old house at Onehunga. The order expired last month. Mr Ivanhoe claims that he “disrupted his career” (he is an English schoolteacher who spent some years in New Zealand) and travelled 12,000 miles to save “this grand old house from destruction.” Earlier this year, Mr Ivanhoe wrote to the council after receipt of its notice saying the demand was “un-British” coming without any warning. He plans to restore the house to what it was like.
