„ A fine all-round match by the Sheffield player, K. Howarth, who scored a century and took four wickets In each innings, was one of the highlights of the second round of the Malvern sub-assoctation’B cricket competition, which concluded on Saturday. Howarth’s team-mate, the veteran, A. F. Wright, also performed well, taking six wickets against South Malvern in the first innings. R. Gunn (Darfield) took six wickets in an innings for the third time in consecutive innings. Results:—
Hororata 194 and 180 for six declared (G. Stone 75, B. Carroll 33; D. Gunn two for 42) beat Kirwee 121 (G. T. Wright 41; P. Blakeley five for 54, N. Rothwell five for 22) and 85 (Wright 34; L. Moore five for 11, Blakeley four for 48) outright. Sheffield 301 for seven declared beat South Malvern 88 (R. Stuart 37 not out; A. F. Wright six for 37, K. Howarth four for 47) and 171 (O. Stuart 39, R. Tilson 78; Howarth four for 59. D. Deans three for 30) outright Greendale 147 and 248 for nine declared (K. Shipley 93, P. Cornish 47 not out; R. Gunn six for 88) lost to Darfield 226
for five declared and 115 for three (G. Loe 31 not out, G. Bruhns 30. Gunn 29; G. Ridgen two for 17) on the first innings. Points after the two rounds are:—Hororata 17, Sheffield 13, Greendale, Darfield 6. South Malvern 5, Kirwea 1.
