LOST BOY FOUND
Spent Night In Open
A small boy who became lost at Waikuku Beach late on Saturday afternoon spent the night in the open and was found by his father about 7.30 a.m. yesterday, about half-way between Waikuku and Woodend beaches. He is Steven Mutu, aged five, who lives at the corner of Antigua and Burke streets, Christchurch.
Steven, a member of the under nine years Addington Rugby League team, was attending the team’s picnic at the Waikuku Beach Domain when he got lost. Sergeant R. J. Hart and Constable E. G. Smith, of Rangiora. were informed shortly after 5 p.m. and went to the area. A large party of campers, whitebaiters, residents, and others searched for the boy until about midnight. The search was resumed about 4 a.m. The boy slept under a clump of marram grass and was awakened by bis father’s calls.
The police last evening expressed appreciation to all those who had assisted in the search.
