THREATENED POLICE
fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. When the police were called to a Lower Hutt house on Friday evening they found John McConachie, aged 33, drainlayer, waiting for them at the front gate with a four foot steel bar. Yesterday McConachie pleaded guilty before Mr J. K. Patterson. S.M„ to a charge of assaulting his wife. Sergeant J. L. McCormack said McConachie, who had been drinking, had an argument with his wife and then assaulted her. She suffered bruised legs, scratched arms and alleged that her husband had placed his hand round her throat * The sergeant said McConachie had to be handcuffed after threatening the police with the steel bar.
