When the police were called to a Lower Hutt house on Friday evening they found John McConachie, aged 33, drainlayer, waiting for them at the front gate with a four foot steel bar. Yesterday McConachie pleaded guilty before Mr J. K. Patterson. S.M„ to a charge of assaulting his wife. Sergeant J. L. McCormack said McConachie, who had been drinking, had an argument with his wife and then assaulted her.
