CHRISTMAS MAIL
1000 Bags Overseas
More than 1000 bags of Christmas mail have been forwarded to overseas countries by the Christchurch Post Office during the last month. A spokesman for the Post Office said yesterday that overseas postings had been heavier this year than last.
Although surface Christmas mail had closed a fortnight ago, many letters were still being received; the senders obviously hoping that they would be delivered in Britain by Christmas. No guarantee could now be given that this would be done, the spokesman said, because although the mail might arrive in Britain several days before Christmas, the sorting of it might be delayed. There has also been a big demand for the special issue of Christmas stamps and since they were put on sale, stamps to the value of £15,750 have been sold in the Christchurch postal district.
