High Jump Won By Russians
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) TOKYO, October 21. Valeri Brumel, of Russia, the world record-holder, brought the Olympic athletics contests to an end tonight by winning the high jump gold medal in a tense duel with John Thomas (United States). Both broke the Olympic record by clearing 7ft ijin and both failed at 7ft 2}in. Brumel, who had less faults, took the gold medal.
