Khrushchev
Sir, —The points raised by two correspondents on Monday regarding the dropping of Mr Khrushchev are totally illogical. My summing up is that the Russian people resented Khrushchev’s becoming too friendly with treacherous Westerns and using the technique of co-existence to introduce capitalism in Russia. Radio Peking has been broadcasting the betrayal of Russian ideals by neo-Russian capitalists, many of whom were tried and executed. The Russian people also thought
that, in spite of perpetual snubs and insults by Western leaders on every possible occasion in regard to communism, Mr Khrushchev was trying to disregard the logic of Marx-Leninism. Therefore, he was democratically disposed of! Khrushchev’s squabble with China was too much for the Russian intellectuals, especially when he was outwitted by the razorsharp logic of the Chinese.— Yours, etc., RALPH S. WHEELER. Timaru, October 19, 1964.
