CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Governor To Be Patron The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) has consented to become patron of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, said the retiring president (Mr E. Fraser) in his presidential address at the chamber’s annual meeting in Christchurch yesterday. “As you know, his mother, Lady Fergusson, was a patroness of the chamber,” said Mr Fraser. “His Excellency has advised that in view of this connexion, he is pleased to accept the office of patron.” Mr A. R. Mackay was elected president of the chamber. Mr B. J. Drake was elected vice-president. Messrs G. H. Wood, J. Boyd-Clark, W. G. V. Fernie and J. Roysmith were appointed life members of the chamber. Tributes to the services of Miss I. V. Shrimpton- were paid by Mr Fraser. Miss Shrimpton, he said, had resigned as executive secretary of the chamber. She had given long and faithful service in her term as secretary and advisory secretary.
