MALVERN GAMES

Time lost through rain shortened all the matches in the Malvern Cricket Sub-association’s competitions.

Hororata had a hard struggle to beat Darfield on the first Innings. When the last pair, P. Blakely and G. Rowe, came together, Hororata was still 20 runs behind, but by determined batting they put on 23 runs to gain a lead of three runs. The best batting came from R. Tilson, who scored 92 for South Malvern, O. Stuart (64) and A. Clucas (54). R. Gunn toiled hard for Darfield to take six for 83, and J. Adams returned a good all-round performance for Greendale by making 49 not out and taking three for 34 off 21 overs. Results were:—

Greendale 233 and 131 for three declared (J. Adams 49 not out, B. Ridgen 34) beat Sheffield 134 (G. Jenkins 30. not out, A. Wright 28, G. Ridgen four for 22, J. Adams three for 34, F. Adams three for 56) and 58 for two (K. Howard 42 not out) on the first innings. South Malvern 264 for nine declared (R. Tilson 92, R. Stuart 64, O. Stuart 37; R. Morris three for 43, R. Irvine two for 32) beat Kirwee 240 on the first innings. Hororata 258 (H. Prldle 82, A. Clucas 54; R. Gunn six for 83) beat Darfield 255 for eight declared, on the first innings.
