TWO MEN KILLED
Car Drops 70 Feet (N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 18. Two young men died when a car plunged through a safety fence, crashed down a 70ft bank and exploded south of Hawera on Saturday afternoon. Three other passengers in the vehicle were thrown clear of the wreck. They were admitted to hospital. Those killed were, Trevor John Lawrence, aged 23, single, freezing worker, of Patea, and John Te Hapimana Taha, aged 20, single, a scrubcutter, of Waitotara, the driver of the vehicle. Admitted to hospital were Cedric Chadwick, aged 23. married, a scrubcutter, of Patea; Samuel Martin, aged 21, a scrubcutter, of Te Awamutu; and Robin John O’Brien, Lemon street, New Plymouth. Mr O’Brien had hitch-hiked a ride in the car.
