Japanese Ban Mass In Village
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) TOKYO, October 1. Japanese Olympic authorities have refused permission for Father W. S. Bryson, a Catholic priest, formerly of Sydney, to say Mass in the Yoyogi village each Sunday morning.
They have also refused to allow any other church services in the village. Father Bryson offered to say Mass
for the Australians every Sunday at 7 a.m. so that their training schedules for the day would not be interrupted. Last Sunday several athletes were unable to train in the morning because they were attending services at churches outside the village. Father Bryson also asked permission for services of all denominations to be held in the village. The Japanese authorities, in refusing the request, gave no reason. Today Father Bryson told Australian Olympic officials he would make another approach.
