Christchurch College
Mr, —Mr Bain, the bursar of Christchurch College, states that the new college is being built “between two branches of the upper Avon.” In fact,, there are no branches of the Avon. One is the Avon proper and the other is the Ota-kakaro stream, once a river as indicated by the caption on page 222 of the “Cyclopedia of New Zealand” (Canterbury): “Junction of Avon and Ota-kakaro rivers at Bam—Mr P. Campbell's residence.” The Waimairi County Coun-
cil maps always refer to this stream by its correct name, and it will' be a great pity if the newcomers to the district neglect to find out all the proper names of streams, etc. —Yours, etc., TREVOR W. STRINGER. . October 1, 1964.
